Greg Babst Emergency Management Coordinator, Fort Bend County

Greg Babst has dedicated his career to serving and protecting communities, bringing over three decades of experience in emergency management, tactical operations, and federal law enforcement. In January 2023, Greg was promoted to Emergency Management Coordinator for Fort Bend County, following his tenure as Assistant Deputy and Emergency Management Specialist I in the county’s Exercise and Training division. He first joined the Fort Bend County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management in April 2021.

Before his civilian service, Greg completed a distinguished 24-year career in the United States Coast Guard, reaching the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. During his tenure, he held key roles, including Surf Rescue Coxswain, Federal Law Enforcement Officer, Tactical Deployment Team Lead, and Maritime Security Response Team member. He was also part of the National Incident Management Deployment Team, contributing to critical incident response and maritime security operations.

As a U.S. Coast Guard Training Officer, Greg accumulated over 15,600 hours of teaching experience, serving as a lead instructor in areas such as Search and Rescue, Law Enforcement, Emergency Management, HAZMAT, First Aid, High-Risk Training, Weapons Proficiency, Tactical Operations, and Small Boat Operations. He is a certified instructor, having completed the USCG 80-hour Instructor Course at Training Center Petaluma, California.

Greg’s extensive field experience encompasses thousands of maritime cases as a first responder and incident commander, ranging from search and rescue operations to complex incidents involving terrorism, cartel drug seizures, and active shooter scenarios. He has served over 20 years as a Federal Law Enforcement Officer and 13 years as a Tactical Operator with the Maritime Security Response Teams, including assignments in CBRNE (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosives) operations. His deployments span the Middle East, Pacific Theater, and Western Hemisphere.

Greg is a licensed instructor with Type I and II certifications in various command leadership roles under the National Incident Command System structure. His unwavering dedication to excellence in emergency management and public safety continues to guide his contributions to Fort Bend County and beyond.
